The Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a neutral, international, not-for-profit institution providing dispute resolution services. The institution was established in 1994 and specializes in cross-border IP and technology disputes.
WIPO manages IP arbitrations, as well as mediation and expert determinations. The content of these disputes may be contractual (e.g. licensing of IP rights or distribution contracts), as well as non-contractual (e.g. IP rights infringement). WIPO also manages proceedings through its WIPO Electronic Case Facility (WIPO ECAF), which allows for electronic filing, storing and retrieval of case-related submissions and documents.
WIPO provides for its own Arbitration Rules, its Rules for Expedited Arbitration, Mediation Rules and Expert Determination Rules.
Finally, WIPO also provides for a forum for domain name disputes under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Rules (UDRP Rules).
